Your Quarantine Online Resources

The vast majority of us are in quarantine, in self-isolation and practicing social distancing. It’s a strange time in the world, as we are being forced (for the greater good) to stay indoors, and not socialize. This can be hard on some people, so I’ve prepared a list of online courses that you can take advantage of while you are locked indoors. These are mix of paid and free courses.

  1. TEFL

Why not take a TEFL course? I took a TEFL course about 11 years ago and then moved to South Korea to teach English. TELF can open so many doors for you and it’s basically a passport to teach English in many countries around the world. Why not use this time at home to become a TEFL teacher and get planing your teaching abroad trip for when the world returns to normal? Or, you can even start teaching English online if you don’t want to wait!

I am an affiliate with the TEFL Institute of Ireland and they are offering 20% off right now. Simply use the code “UPSKILL20” to sign up. You can sign up here.

Disclaimer: As an affiliate, I do receive 13% commission when you sign up with TEFL Ireland.

2. Free Intro to HTML & CSS Online Workshop

General Assembly is offering this free introductory class. This would be great for anyone interested in coding, or if you have an interest in building your own website. This a livestream online class, there is one scheduled for today March 26th , but keep an eye on their website for more. They also have other free online workshops such as Intro to SQL and Intro to UX Design. Check them out here.

3. DuoLingo

Why not download this free app and start learning a new language? If you have a big trip planned for 2021 and you want to get to know the local language, now is your chance! Or, maybe you’ve just always dreamed of learning a second language – DuoLingo can help you. As I said the basic DuoLingo app is free, if you want to get more in depth, you can pay. Head to the Play Store or Apple store to download it now.

4. Udemy

Udemy offers courses for absolutely everyone – from business courses, to marketing, to design courses and even personal development. They do have an amazing sale on until 8pm tonight, so now is a great time to dive into some of their courses at a very cheap cost. Check them out here.

5. Lynda

7. The Crafty Writer’s Creative Writing Course

If you’ve always pictured yourself writing a best seller, why not get started! This is a service started by fiction author Fiona Veitch Smith to help you master your craft and publish better books. The class is self-paced and walks you through the basics of becoming a writer, and best of all, it’s free! Check it out here.

9. HeleninBetween

Helene is an amazing travel blogger that I’ve been following for a while. She worked in marketing before going into blogging full time. She makes an astounding salary from full-time travel blogging and she is a fantastic resource if you are contemplating starting your own blog. If you are thinking about blogging and have no idea where to start, then check her out, she is a wealth of knowledge. She also runs webinars and numerous courses. She is running a free Instagram workshop over the next few days that I am registered for. Head to her website here.

10. The Rise of Superheroes and their Impact on Pop Culture

Ok, this is a cool one. Offered by EdX and starting on March 31, 2020, if you’re a superhero buff, you won’t want to miss this! It’s a free course, if you want the certificate at the end of it, you can pay $71. In this course you can learn from Smithsonian and industry leaders. This is a self-paced online course, and if you decide to get the certificate at the end, you will also receive a piece of digital artwork from a current comic nook artist. Sign up here.

And of course, don’t worry, if you’d rather spend your quarantine time making stupid videos on TikTok (like me), no shame in that!

Until next time 🙂
