Chef’s Plate Review

I recently signed up for Chef’s Plate, because they partnered with work and we got a great discount on our first two boxes. I have never ordered a food box before, but many of friends order them so I was excited to finally try one.

A 2 person – 2 recipe plan from Chef’s Plate, is about $45. You can log in and choose your recipes from a list of about 12 recipes. You can choose meat and vegetables boxes or if you are a vegetarian, they have vegetarian only boxes, you make that selection when you sign up. I’m not a vegetarian, so I can’t speak to the recipes you get to choose from if you make that selection.

I have received two separate boxes from Chef’s Plate, each containing two recipes for two people.

Portion sizes: I wondered about the portion sizes ahead of ordering, because Phil has a big appetite so I was worried the portions would be too small. Luckily, I didn’t find that to be the case. The portions were good and for one recipe – the shepards pie, we actually had one serving left over. What I will say is that for a couple of recipes, I found that we had more veg than meat. Or more of one thing, than another. For example, for the Caribbean style tacos we got (which were amazing), we had plenty of taco stuffing, but we ran out of wraps, I would have liked to see a couple more wraps in that recipe.

Ease of recipe: All the recipes I received were very easy to follow, the directions were very clear and the results were exactly as expected. My only one slight issue would be the amount of single use plastic that they use. The recipes come in paper bags, but then lots of the individual ingredients are packaged in plastic, so I think they could look at that.

Hidden costs: I haven’t found any hidden costs with Chef’s Plate, however, be careful when choosing your recipes, because some of them have an extra charge per serving.

Recipe Choice: I think Chef’s Plate has very good selection overall. You are usually presented with about 12 choices (3 or so of them might have extra costs).

Cost: For me, I think $45 for 2 meals for myself and Phil is a little on the expensive side. I can buy my own ingredients for two meals for less than that. So, while I may order from Chef’s Plate again, I would probably only do so when I have a discount, not at full price.

Overall Rating: I would give Chef’s Plate 3.5 stars out of 5
